One Clients experience...
Gone are the days of a red wine for all cheese!
On arrival Wine Unearthed greeted us with a glass of chilled Champagne. Straight away I was at ease as my preconceived ideas were blown away…not a tweed jacket in sight! There was time to meet and greet with a glass of bubbly before taking our seats at the large round white linen clad tables – the white background helps when looking at the wine colour. The room looked great, they had organised everything for our event so it was just a case of turning up and ‘hopefully’ enjoying the experience with our staff and clients... 80 of us in all!
I had provided Wine Unearthed with guests names split into 8 teams so as to get a good mix in the room. We’d opted to have cheese with our wine tasting and it certainly added to the occasion. The indulgent wedges of cheese looked great set on slate in the centre of each table. Wine Unearthed had sourced them from a local cheese specialist and it was amazing to see how each wine’s taste changed with the cheese. We even had tasting notes on the cheese!
Following a quick introduction from Wine Unearthed we were straight into the first wine and learning the art of wine tasting. Some of us got really into it making our tasting notes in the booklets provided others got as far as…’mmm...looks good, smells good and tastes good too’…I have to say the spittoons provided did remain rather empty! Things were kept lively as we all joined in the blind tasting challenges. I thought my table did really well as we were picking up much more than my usual ‘blackcurrant’, we had everything from honey blossom to rich fruitcake and even petrol!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and Wine Unearthed made everyone feel very comfortable as they walked around the tables helping us with hints and tasting tips. The wine tasting acted as a really great way to get everyone socialising and the quiz really showed our competitive nature. It was quite remarkable how 80 adults can get quite so excited about winning. There were some real surprises I for one who professed ‘I don’t like Chardonnay’ was happily sipping away on a Premier Cru Chablis which turned out to be my favourite wine of the evening! Having tasted 8 different wines we finished on a delicious dessert wine served with the Stilton.
The event was a real success and I have some new found wine tasting skills to boot!
